In this informative workshop, artist Matthew James Collins will address various strategies on designing, understanding and drawing drapery on the human figure. A theoretical explanation will explore the purpose and various typologies of drapery folds commonly found in antique and contemporary clothing.  Working directly from the model, students will develop studies exploring the expressive possibilities of the draped figure. Two poses with different drapery challenges will be presented. Demonstrations on tinted paper with a variety of chalk colors offer insights about mid-tone (paper), shadow (dark chalk) and highlights (light chalk).
