In this class, you will deepen your understanding of Organic Abstraction. Students will work on location at Oak Park Conservatory and enplein air, studying the wetland at Taylor Park. This type of abstraction is a way of working from flora and fauna and the environment, while also re-imagining and re-visioning what is seen. Nestled between representation, Expressionism, Impression and Abstract Expressionism, Organic Abstractions are a bridge for the artist and viewer to take a leap into total abstraction. Along the way, you will build an understanding of rendering light in your paintings and drawings, creating spatial constructs and using a variety of media. We will discuss the art work of Arthur Dove, Milton Avery, Paul Gauguin, Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keefe and various contemporary artists.
