Art gallery and studio experience combined, young artists will find inspiration through art exhibitions in OPAL’s historic Carriage House Gallery, specifically designed to cultivate ideas for projects, which are then guided by professional teaching artists in the studio.

A number of partial need-based scholarships are available on a first come-first served basis.

The Game of Paint
Instructor: Nancy Jensen 
Learn to draw with paint and see your landscapes, still life and portraits come to life.  Experiment with non-traditional painting materials and tools as well.

Wild Thing Picture Books
Instructor: Barbara McClure
Illustrate your own picture books with unique characters and settings.  Learn the basic elements of a story line and create your book with a variety of art materials.

Art Gone Wild: Feathers & Fur
Instructor:  Ann Primack
Spend a week exploring how your favorite rain forest animals will inspire your art making. Projects will  include: clay animals, beetle art, and animal masks.

An Up-Cycled Adventure
No Camp Friday, July 3rd.
Instructor: Olivia Lauritsen
Use materials that would otherwise be thrown away and watch them  come alive once more through art-making!. Milk cartons will turn into magical houses, cardboard and used paper into sketch books, and second-hand clothes into handcrafted dolls.

Spend a week exploring how your favorite ocean animals will inspire your art making. Projects will include sand sculptures, watercolor fish and clay turtles

Folk Tales & Fairy Tales and the Artist Playhouse
Instructor: Rhona Taylor 
This visual & performance art workshop will enrich and focus children’s natural gift for creative and imaginative play using improvisation, theater games, and storytelling. We will create an original performance, design and make simple costumes and set decorations.

Wizards of Wool
Instructor: Pam Penney 
What magic does wool offer?  Well come to explore and learn with wool as a primary medium through dyeing, spinning, felting, stitching, weaving and more. Then combine these techniques to create a unique  piece of fiber art.

Build This - Custom Creatures!
Instructor: Gina Lee Robbins
Explore sculpture with a focus on process and materials. You'll use various media and found or repurposed materials to build, carve, assemble and weave your 3-dimensional forms. Experiment with different  techniques, such as painting, texture and material embellishment to finish your custom creature.

Chinese Brush Painting & More
Instructor: Nancy Fong
Delve into this centuries-old culture and explore activities such as calligraphy, book binding, paper cutting, paper folding, Chinese knots, pottery and tai chi just for starters!

Inky Fingers: Intro to Printmaking

Get inky in this introduction to printmaking camp.  Create mono-prints, relief prints, and stencils, stamp-making, and learn how making multiples can be so addictive!

A Journey to Thailand
Instructor: Olivia Lauritsen
Journey with us to Thailand as we recreate traditional Thai mask dances. Create masks, outfits, and characters along with props and scenic designs out of found materials. Study Thai patterns & flowers, and learn to draw naga (serpent like creatures) and of course elephants!

No Computer Needed: The Art of 2-D Design
Instructor: Hannah Mathis
This camp introduces students to the basics of graphic design, while encouraging hands-on investigation. Campers will be introduced to color theory, typography, and lay out, while also being encouraged to develop their own sense of style. Design music and movie posters, food packaging and mood boards.

Learn the basics of drawing through focus on still life, self- portrait and animals. Various media and techniques will be explored, including pastel, pencil, colored pencil and pen and ink.

An Outer Space Adventure with the Artist Playhouse
Instructor: Rhona Taylor
Lift off in this exciting visual & performance art workshop.  Create and original performance, design and make simple costumes and set decorations.  Then retell the story using improvisation and the actors own works so that everyone can be comfortable and 'ply' together on stage for an audience.

Mixed Media and Fiber Sculpture 
Instructor: Pam Penney
Sculpture isn’t just for marble, clay and wood. Come explore the art of needle felting, armatures, stitching & stuffing and paper-mache to build  three dimensional fabric and fiber master-pieces!
