Working Small with Mixed Media - February 1st.

Working Small with Mixed Media
Instructor: Jackie Lakely

Working on small pieces is a fun way to explore new ideas, apply new tecnniques, try out palettes and work relatively quickly to set things in motion in develop your artwork. In this workshop we will focus on developing four pieces at the same time, with instructor guidance from start to finish. We will explore tools, techniques and compositions that work best for smaller artwork, including palette selection and color mixing, painting, using collage and simple image transfer, deli paper printing, alcohol inks, glazing and mark making. Jackie will provide each person with a sheet of bristol board sectioned into four varying small sizes to work within, and if you would like to bring a board or canvas or your own paper to work with, bring anything from 4” x 4” up to 10” x 10” (or thereabout, if you prefer rectangular then no bigger than 9” x 12").  Jackie will demonstrate how to compose small pieces while thinking big and illustrating how to apply each tool and technique. This is a fun way to think big within small spaces, and will partner nicely with the Working Large workshop, where we will scale up all of these ideas. All levels are welcome but some experience in drawing, painting or mixed media is ideal.
