The key to exciting figure drawing is to capture the expressive essence of the form through attentive mark-making and convincing structure. This course will begin with a gesture approach to the figure and will include basic skeletal anatomy to assist in achieving proper proportion of the human form. Longer poses will allow investigation in both line and tone.
Basic measuring techniques will be reviewed.
Brief critiques will be held to encourage constructive feedback from both the class members and the instructor.
Students who wish to utilize the figure as a starting point for personal interpretation will be encouraged to do so.
This course can be repeated.
This is traditional OPAL Sunday figure session for drawing from a live model. These are 3-hour non-instructional figure drawing sessions. Work on your figure-drawing skills at your own self-directed pace! Our facilitator sets up and lights and directs the model.
Easels, horses, boards are provided for use during the session. Bring your own materials - whatever you want to work with, charcoal, pencils, pastels, paint, ipad, modeling clay, etc.
Open to adults only, must be at least 18 yrs. old to register and attend. To give attendees enough room to work and keep a sociable distance, studio capacity for students is set at 14

Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese art form in which gold is used to repair broken ceramics. The practice of Kintsugi highlights the break rather than erasing it and emphasizes that the break is what makes the ceramics more valuable and beautiful. In this beginner’s workshop, participants will learn the basic technique of Kintsugi on a small porcelain plate or a small ceramic plate to understand the fundamentals of this process.
